History of hamamonyo

1948
  • Kiyoshi Kato establishes the Kiyoshi Nassen Factory corporation. in Kamiooka Minami-ku, Yokohama-shi.
1955
  • The factory moves to its current location. (Mainly scarf printing)
1972
  • Nassen for saris (traditional Indian dress) through the introduction of automated nassen printing machines
1989
  • The name of the company is changed to establish Kiyoshi Fabrics corporation
1992
  • Yokohama Design corporation. is established as a private brand planning company of Kiyoshi Fabrics corporation
  • The company is divided into Kiyoshi Fabrics as the manufacturing department and Yokohama Design as the planning and sales department.
1993
  • Yokohama Design corporation. is renamed hamamonyo corporation.
  • Planning and sales of hamamonyo, an in-house brand that uses the Nassen technique, starts.
  • Development of cotton shantung furoshiki (wrapping cloth) “Konuno” starts. Active development of “Nassen Tenugui” begins.
1993

2007
  • The Yokohama Furoshiki Series is awarded the Ishizaka Koji Award Grand Prix at the Twelfth Yokohama Goods show Yokohama 001 from the Yokohama Convention & Visitors’ Bureau.
  • The Tenugui-Bon is exhibited at the Katachi Modern Japan Design exhibit at the Angewandte Kunst Museum in Frankfurt Germany.
  • The Tenugui-Bon receives the 2007 Good Design Award along with the Good Design Award of Small and Medium Enterprises.
2008
